Hearing Aid Technology
Starkey puts a new chip, the G4 Gen AI Neuro Processor, under four neural networks that run at the same time. It also adds a compressor guided by a neural network, sleep tracking and an alert for hearing aids left behind. Most of the performance figures come from Starkey's own testing. As of October 16, 2026 we found no independent laboratory results for Omega AI+.
Below we set out what is new, where each claim comes from and what the coverage does not say. The brand overview is on our Starkey page. The platform before this one is covered on our Edge AI page.
At a glance
- Omega AI+ was announced on October 1, 2026. It runs the new G4 Gen AI Neuro Processor and what Starkey calls a Quad DNN Architecture, with four neural networks working together.
- Starkey says the G4 processes sound up to 2.7 times faster than competing devices with neural processing. That is a Starkey benchmark, not an independent result.
- New features reported at launch: a DNN Dual Compressor, Edge Mode that can stay on, Sleep Quality Tracking on supported receiver-in-canal models, and a Hearing Aids Left Behind alert in the My Starkey app.
- The HearAdvisor grade of A that Omega AI earned does not carry over. HearingTracker reports that HearAdvisor has not yet published results for Omega AI+.
What Starkey announced
Starkey introduced Omega AI+ on October 1, 2026 as the latest generation of its flagship platform. It builds on Omega AI, which arrived in October 2025 with DNN 360 directionality, health sensing and generative AI tools. Omega AI is not discontinued in the coverage we read, and the two platforms sit side by side in the news so far. The coverage does not give a ship date or a regional rollout beyond the announcement. We will tell you when we can fit and demonstrate it.
What is new compared with Omega AI
Starkey and the trade press list these changes: the G4 processor in place of G3, a fourth neural network that guides compression, a redesigned feedback system, Edge Mode that can stay active as the default program, DNN 360 directionality extended to more custom styles, sleep tracking and a left-behind alert. Battery life is reported as the same as Omega AI. The table below sets the two side by side. Where a feature is not listed for Omega AI, we say so rather than guess.
| Feature | Omega AI (October 2025) | Omega AI+ (October 1, 2026) |
|---|---|---|
| Processor | G3 Gen AI Neuro Processor | G4 Gen AI Neuro Processor |
| Neural networks | DNN 360 directionality | Four networks at once (Quad DNN) |
| Compression | Not listed as neural | DNN Dual Compressor (Level 24 only, per HearingTracker) |
| Edge Mode | Turned on by the wearer | Can stay on as the default program |
| Sleep tracking | Not listed | Sleep Quality Tracking on supported RIC models |
| Battery (RIC RT, no streaming) | Up to 51 hours | Up to 51 hours, same as Omega AI |
| Independent test | HearAdvisor grade A, second of 36 | No published result yet |
Four neural networks, described slightly differently
Coverage agrees that Omega AI+ runs four deep neural networks at once on the G4 chip. It does not describe them in the same words. Hearing Health Matters lists speech understanding, environmental awareness, listening comfort and sound quality. HearingTracker lists speech enhancement with noise reduction, directionality, DNN 360 spatial awareness and the new DNN Dual Compressor. Both agree on the number. We would ask Starkey for the exact list before we repeat either version as fact.
The DNN Dual Compressor
Compression is how a hearing aid squeezes loud and soft sounds into your range. Fast compression helps with speech and can make background sound pump up and down. Slow compression sounds smoother and can blur quick speech. Starkey calls its answer the first DNN Dual Compressor. A neural network decides when a fast or a slow response suits the moment, so the aid does not have to settle on one. Starkey says this reduces artifacts, and in its own testing all participants noticed fewer. HearingTracker's comparison table lists the dual compressor at the top technology level, Level 24, only.
Edge Mode and feedback
Edge Mode is the Starkey program that uses extra processing in hard listening places. On Omega AI+ it can stay on, and coverage says it can be set as the default. HearingTracker lists always-on Edge Mode at Level 24. It also reports that Starkey redesigned feedback management and quotes Starkey tests of 11 dB more gain before feedback overall and 32 dB fewer feedback artifacts. Those are company numbers. Whistling is a fitting question as much as a chip question, and we deal with it in the room with real-ear measurement.
Styles, batteries and water
HearingTracker lists these Omega AI+ styles: mRIC R, RIC RT, RIC 312, CIC, ITC R, ITE R, IIC NW, CIC NW and CIC R NW. DNN 360 now reaches rechargeable ITC and ITE models, and Starkey added a way to bring AI to its smallest invisible-in-canal devices. Starkey says rechargeable models run up to 51 hours without streaming for the RIC RT and about 42 hours for mRIC and custom rechargeable models. HearingTracker lists 45 hours with streaming for the RIC RT, and says a 10-minute quick charge gives up to 3 hours. Rechargeable models carry an IP68 rating from Starkey. Runtime for the RIC 312 on a disposable battery is not stated. If an in-the-ear style matters to you, ask which Omega AI+ models exist and at which level.
Sleep tracking and the left-behind alert
Sleep Quality Tracking is new. Sensors in supported receiver-in-canal models give a nightly sleep score, time awake, light and deep sleep, and body position. Starkey says it is available in the United States and is not a diagnostic or screening tool for sleep apnea or any sleep disorder. The My Starkey app also adds an alert when you walk away from your hearing aids. Starkey calls it an industry first. Fall detection, activity tracking, balance tools and respiratory-rate monitoring carry over from earlier Starkey platforms and remain optional.
Connectivity: Auracast and LE Audio
Omega AI+ supports Auracast broadcast audio and Bluetooth LE Audio on compatible wireless models, with an Auracast assistant in the My Starkey app. Omega AI also gained Auracast and LE Audio support earlier in 2026, so the coverage does not make clear what is new here. Telecoil support is not stated in any article we read. If a looped theater or place of worship matters to you, tell us the venue and we will check the exact model before you decide.
Price listings, and what is not stated
Starkey has not announced prices in the coverage we read. HearingTracker lists starting prices per pair of $3,998 for the Premium level (Level 24), $3,798 for Advanced (Level 20) and $3,198 for Standard (Level 16). It adds that it would expect top-level mRIC styles to cost $5,000 to $7,000 per pair, which is its own expectation and not a confirmed figure. Final cost varies by clinic, model and the care included. Ask us for a written quote after your hearing test.
What independent testing exists
None yet for Omega AI+. HearingTracker says HearAdvisor will test the devices and that it will report the results. Omega AI, the earlier platform, earned a HearAdvisor grade of A and second place among thirty-six prescription hearing aids. That grade belongs to Omega AI. HearingTracker warns that it should not be read as a result for Omega AI+. We will update this page when a laboratory publishes.
Who should be interested
If you wear Omega AI that was verified and works well, a new chip is not a reason by itself to replace it. Reviewers described the step from Edge AI to Omega AI as noticeable rather than dramatic, and we expect the same caution to apply here until someone measures the new platform. If you want a custom in-the-ear style with neural processing, sleep tracking or an always-on Edge Mode, Omega AI+ is worth a demonstration. Starkey also reported small, stiff buttons on Omega AI, so handle a pair before you buy.
How California Hearing Center helps
We do not recommend one brand first. We run a hearing test, learn how you live, and then work out which hearing aid serves you best. If a Starkey aid is on that list, we will say why. A hearing test visit with counseling takes about an hour. Hearing aids come with a 45-day trial and no restocking fee. Request a hearing test at our San Mateo or San Carlos office, or ask about a hearing aid second opinion visit. Read about our hearing aid fitting too.
More 2026 flagships
Omega AI+ is one of five new AI flagships announced between August 10 and October 1, 2026. See our pages on Signia MaX, Oticon Reveal and Phonak EON, and our comparison of Oticon Reveal and Starkey Omega AI. For the idea behind them, read what dual AI means in hearing aids.

Frequently asked questions
A few questions worth asking
What is Starkey Omega AI+?
It is the latest generation of Starkey's flagship Omega AI platform, announced on October 1, 2026. It adds the G4 Gen AI Neuro Processor, four neural networks working together and a compressor guided by a neural network. It also adds sleep tracking on supported models.
Is Omega AI+ better than Omega AI?
Starkey says so on speed and artifacts, but those claims come from Starkey's own testing. HearAdvisor graded Omega AI an A and ranked it second of thirty-six. It has not yet published results for Omega AI+, so we cannot say how large any gain is.
Does Omega AI+ come in an in-the-ear style?
Yes. HearingTracker lists custom styles including ITC, ITE, CIC and IIC models. DNN 360 now reaches rechargeable ITC and ITE models. Some features depend on the style and level, so ask which model you would get.
Does Omega AI+ track sleep?
Sleep Quality Tracking is new on supported receiver-in-canal models in the United States. It gives a sleep score, sleep stages and body position. Starkey says it is not a diagnostic or screening tool for sleep apnea or any sleep disorder.
Should I replace my Omega AI hearing aids?
Not because of the announcement alone. If your Omega AI aids are verified with real-ear measurement and working well, a newer chip is not a reason by itself. If your hearing has changed or the style no longer suits you, ask us for a visit and we will measure first.
How much does Omega AI+ cost?
Starkey has not published a price in the coverage we read. HearingTracker lists starting prices per pair of $3,998, $3,798 and $3,198 for the three levels. We give a written quote after your hearing test, so you see the full cost and the care included.
